Spelling Rules - J

We'll continue learning Spanish spelling rules.

Use J:

  1. In words that end in -aje:
    e.g. arbirtraje, pasaje, equipaje, espionaje.
    Exceptions: ambage and enálage.

  2. In words that end in -jero:
    e.g. agujero, cerrajero, consejero, extranjero.
    Exception: ligero (and derivatives).

  3. In the inflexions of irregular verbs that use the syllables je or ji (which weren't part of the root of the verb).
    e.g. conduje (from conducir) and dijeron (from decir).
